The statistics published in the Alzheimer’s Association 2021 Alzheimer’s Disease Facts and Figures Special Report is enough to scare anyone. Current data shows that 6.2 Americans age 65 or older have been diagnosed with some form of dementia. Alzheimer’s is now the 6th leading cause of death. And eighty-three percent of the help provided to older adults in the United States comes from family members, friends or other unpaid caregivers.

The Internet Resource Guide for Dementia Caregivers lists websites, podcasts, and groups offering free information and support for the family and friends of dementia caregivers. In addition to the original guide, you will receive monthly updates on additional resources offering relevant information.
Facts like that certainly reinforce the truth in the late former First Lady Rosalyn Carter’s profound quote:
“There are only four kinds of people in the world – those who have been caregivers, those who are caregivers, those who will be caregivers and those who will need caregivers.”

WHO

WHAT

is included in this guide?
  • Websites found offering accurate information.
  • Podcastst and blogs giving personal perspectives.
  • Easy to read information written for the layperson, not medical professionals.

WHY

is this resource guide needed?

There is a world of information available on the internet for those who have the time and patience to spend searching for it. I was a caregiver for many years, working a full-time job and maintaining a house. I was also responsible for my mother as she progressed through the stages of dementia. I wanted to learn to make her life comfortable, safer, and more engaging. I didn’t have the time to research for the information that could have helped. I needed support myself for all the challenges of dementia caregiving. But I didn’t have time to look for it. I now have time.
